Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief is an adventure fantasy film adapted from the bestselling novel by Rick Riordan same title. This film cinematographer worked on specialist children's film, Chris Columbus' success with a series of Home Alone and Harry Potter. The movie starring the young stars namely, Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario, and accompanied by such famous actors, Pierce Brosnan, Uma Thurman, Chaterine Keener, Sean Bean, Rosario Dawson, and Steve Coogan.
Myth of the Greek gods did not seem opposed to just a myth. They still exist up to now and no middle man. Once Zeus (Bean) was furious because someone sticks petirnya stolen and he accused the son of Poseidon who stole it. The war between the gods would soon happen. Elsewhere, Percy Jackson is a seemingly ordinary boy but he is a demigod, the son of Poseidon. Percy targeted by many parties, so he was eventually forced to go into training camp a child of the gods but in the journey to get there the mother died. After undergoing training for some time Percy know if her mother was detained by Hades (Coogan). Together with two colleagues, and Anabeth Grover, Percy was involved in an exciting adventure to save the mother.
Nothing wrong if a lot of people commented if this film is "imitation" of the Harry Potter series, only the difference between this film stick to the mythical Greek gods. No problem, can even say the story idea quite original. Someone who calls this film is too far-fetched it seems too excessive because his story just the same as the Potter series are equally "steal" a myth from everywhere. The problem is not the story but the story treatment. Potter series structured story with a neat, detailed, and not in a hurry. While Percy tends to further highlight the action with the many details of the story (dramatic side) is missing.
Many things that seemed important in the film's story is still not clear. One stupid question which is very disturbing for a watch. If the gods have been living for thousands of years why they told only have one child only? I do not know or had not been told any other. A bit odd that if all children the gods gathered only on American territory even they were relatively the same age. Then not obvious how to Zeus, king of the gods, lost petirnya stick? Unanswerable questions until the end of the movie. Appear if the material the film's story actually has the potential for an interesting story but the author was not able to develop properly.
Talk of aesthetic achievement if compared to Potter, Percy certainly far below. It was like Percy as an independent version of the Potter. Unlike many Potter uses outdor settings and interior that is very grand, Percy more use of on-location shots, special schools and even Percy had looked more like summer camp. Cook yes god's child's school like this? Underworld (Hell) is depicted quite charming but not so with the palace of Zeus (Gng. Olympus) that looks artificial. Mythical characters such as Minatour, Medusa, and Hydra visualized is quite good but there is nothing new. Could be the only budget $ 95 million, affecting the achievement of aesthetic (sets) and as well as its visual effects (CGI), which is inferior when compared to Potter films.
Like Potter, Percy was also supported by the senior stars who play beautifully. Anyone expecting a top class stars they want to play as a mystical characters with strange intangible. Brosnan play as Brunner, a centaur, half man half horse. Thurman plays cool as Medusa, the snake-headed mythical creature. Then Sean Bean seemed inappropriate to play as the Zeus. Is not too young? While young stars, such as Lerman and Daddario played fairly. They seemed to play better in the next sequel-sequel to Percy.
Percy actually has ideas and the potential for a fresh story but unfortunately the manuscript was flown less slick. Both from the aesthetic side of the story as well as all department responsibilities. Both have been waiting for a sequel and we hope the movie is much better than this.
